# Spaces

> Spaces hold a team's Threads, Captains, Notes, Automations and Files. Learn the three kinds, how to create, switch, archive and delete one.

A Space is the only container in Whorl. Its Threads, Captains, Notes, Automations and Files belong to it, and everyone in the Space can see them. Nothing inside a Space is shared more narrowly than the Space itself, so choosing the Space is how you choose who can see your work.

## Three kinds of Space

| Kind | Who is in it | Notes |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Company** | Everyone at your company ("Everyone in your organization") | Every current member is in it. Company-wide setup lives here. |
| **Personal** | Only you ("Only you") | Permanently private. It cannot be deleted. |
| **Shared** | Its own members ("Members only") | A team, project or client. Owners add and remove people. |

Every member has one Personal Space and is part of the Company Space. A Shared Space is whatever you create it to be.

## Find and switch Spaces

The **Spaces** page in the sidebar lists the Spaces you belong to. Search by name and filter by type. Choose **Open** on a Space to switch to it. You can also choose **Switch Space…** from the sidebar, or, in the [desktop app](/desktop), press ⌘1 to ⌘9 to switch to one of your first nine Spaces.

The sidebar shows the content of the current Space.

## Create a Space

1. Choose **New Space…** from the Space switcher, or **New Space** on the Spaces page.
2. Enter a **Space name**.
3. Choose **Create Space**.

You become the Space's owner. Add people from the Space's page. See [Members and invitations](/members).

## The Space page

Open a Space's page to see and change:

- The Space's name and picture. Choose **Change picture** to set one.
- **Members**, with their roles. See [Members and invitations](/members).
- **Agents**: the instructions, models, skills, tools, plugins and secrets agents in this Space use. See [Agents and setup](/agents/setup).
- **Appearance**: the Space's theme, if you want the Space to have its own.
- **Insights**, a tab with how the Space is used. See [Usage and insights](/usage-and-insights).

You can only change what your role allows. See [Who can see what](/access).

## Threads stay in their Space

A Thread belongs to the Space it starts in and never moves to another Space. Its agent reads only that Space, even in your Personal Space.

## Archive, restore and delete

The Space menu on the Space page has the actions you are allowed to take:

- **Archive Space**: the Space leaves the Space list for everyone, and its Automations and Captains stop. Its Threads and Files stay readable. Any owner can choose **Restore Space** to bring it back.
- **Leave Space**: you lose access to its Threads and Files right away, and your Automations there stop. An owner can add you back.
- **Delete Space**: the Space disappears for everyone, and its Automations stop for good. To confirm, type the Space's exact name. Whorl permanently deletes the Space and its content 30 days later, and nobody can bring it back. The person who deletes it goes to their Personal Space.

A Space owner can archive and delete a Shared Space. Organization owners and admins can also delete a Shared Space, and the Company Space, with the same confirmation. Nobody can delete a Personal Space.
