Files
Files is a Space's one tree of folders and files. Everyone in the Space sees the same tree, and so do their agents. People upload the files a team works from, and agents save what they make there. Every version of every file is kept.
Files shows only the Space's own files. It does not show OneDrive or SharePoint content. Agents can still read and copy files from those libraries through Microsoft 365, but they are not part of Files.
Open Files
Choose Files in the sidebar, or press ⌘D (Ctrl+D on Windows and Linux). Files opens for the Space you are in, and you can switch Spaces from the Space switcher.
Files open in tabs next to the tree. Right-click a file or folder for everything you can do with it. Drag a tab to the side to open two files next to each other.
Views
The views along the top of the page change what the tree lists.
| View | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every folder and file. |
| Recent | Files that changed lately. |
| By agents | Files that agents made. |
| Trash | Files and folders you moved to Trash. |
Use the filter bar to narrow the list by type (Folders, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, PDFs, Images, Text and code) or by name, and to order it by Name, Last edited or Type. The Show options turn on Folders first, Who's in each file and All folders expanded.
Upload and organize
- Choose Upload files, or drop files anywhere on the page. A folder you are in is the destination.
- Choose New folder to create a folder.
- Right-click a file or folder to Rename, Download, Copy link, Move to Trash, or Move to Space or Copy to Space.
A file can be up to 100 MiB. Whorl refuses a larger file and says so. Large transfers wait for a free slot when Whorl is busy with others, and you can run one large transfer at a time.
Previews
Images, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV and Markdown files open in place, so you can read them without downloading. Choose Download to get the original.
Versions
Every save keeps a version. Open a file's Versions to see earlier ones, and restore the version before the current one. See changes shows what changed in a file since you last opened it. For text files it compares the two versions line by line.
Trash
Move to Trash takes a file or folder out of the tree. It waits in Trash for 30 days, then Whorl removes it for good. Restore puts everything back in the folder it was deleted from. Right-click an item in Trash for Restore and Delete forever. Delete forever asks you to confirm, then removes it right away.
Thread and Captain folders
Every Thread and every Captain has a folder of its own in Files. Whorl creates it, names it after the Thread or Captain, and renames or moves it when the owner does.
| Where | Folder |
|---|---|
| A Thread that works in the whole Space | Threads/<title> at the top of the Space |
| A Thread that works in a folder | <folder>/Threads/<title> |
| A Captain | Captains/<name> at the top of the Space |
Inside an owner folder:
- Uploads holds files that people add to the Thread or Captain.
- Outputs holds files that the agent hands back.
- Transcripts holds a record of what each run was asked, said and did. Nobody can change, move or delete a transcript.
Agents can change what is inside these folders, but they cannot rename, move or delete the folders themselves. A Captain's folder also holds its instructions and memory. See Captains.
Setup files such as AGENTS.md and the skills, tools and plugins folders live at the top of a layer's Files. Settings shows the same files. See How agent setup works.
Who can see a file
Anyone in the Space can see its Files. A Personal Space's Files are private to its owner. See Who can see what.
