Microsoft 365
Whorl rebuilds only the part of Teams, Outlook and Calendar that people use every day: Conversations, Mail and Calendar. Agents reach the rest of Microsoft 365 through Microsoft's own tools.
Connect Microsoft 365
Each person connects their own Microsoft account, so an agent can work in Microsoft 365 as that person, with their access and nothing more.
- Open Settings → Company → Integrations.
- Choose Connect Microsoft 365. You sign in with Microsoft.
- The page then lists what agents can work in, such as Mail, Calendar and Conversations. A feature that still needs an approval is marked needs approval.
After you connect, the page says who you are signed in as, with a Reconnect button to sign in again.
If some features wait for a Microsoft administrator, the page shows Waiting for a Microsoft admin. Choose Copy link for IT and send the link to your Microsoft administrator. If you are an owner or admin of your company, the page offers Approve as admin instead, so you can approve it yourself. Features that need approval stay off until it is given, and if the approval is declined, Whorl says Microsoft approval was declined and nothing changes.
The More menu has:
- Reconnect for everyone (owners and admins) to start the approval again after a permission change.
- Open Microsoft admin center (owners and admins).
- Disconnect Microsoft 365. Agents at your company then stop reading and sending mail, booking meetings, posting in Teams and opening files as you, right away. Automations that use them stop too.
If your Microsoft sign-in expires, the page says Needs sign-in, and you choose Sign in again to keep Mail, Calendar and Teams working.
What agents can reach
When you connect, agents that act for you can read and send mail, book meetings, post in Teams and open files, with your access and nothing more. They can also read and change other Microsoft 365 content you have agreed to share.
Agents act as one person at a time. A Captain in a Company or Shared Space never uses anyone's Microsoft account. A Captain in a Personal Space uses its owner's.
Write results
Writing to Microsoft 365 can fail in ways Whorl cannot always see. Every write ends in one of three results, and an unknown result is never retried blindly.
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Applied | Whorl observed the change take effect. |
| Conflict | Microsoft's current state rejected the change, for example because someone moved the event first. Review the current state, then try again. |
| Needs review | The outcome is unknown. Whorl does not call it a failure and does not retry. Check Outlook or Teams before you try again. |
You see these results on the item itself, with wording such as "Send not confirmed" or "Whorl couldn't confirm this went through. Check Outlook before trying again."
Without Microsoft 365
A company that does not use Microsoft 365 can run Conversations and Calendar in Whorl itself and hide Mail.
Note
This is an experimental feature called Whorl Conversations and Calendar. Only an owner or admin can turn it on, and it applies to everyone. There is no personal switch. Turn it on in Settings → Company → Experimental features. See Experimental features.
With it on:
- Conversations are chats between people in your Organization, kept in Whorl.
- Calendar events and invitations live in Whorl. Invitations arrive in Activity, never by email.
- For a company without Microsoft 365, the Mail page is removed from the sidebar and from agent tools.
With the experiment on, a company that does use Microsoft 365 can also choose what runs where, in Settings → Company → General. Under Microsoft 365, switch Conversations sync with Teams chats off to keep conversations in Whorl, and pick whether Calendar comes from Outlook or Whorl Calendar. When you turn Teams chats back on, Whorl offers to link Whorl conversations that have exactly the same people as a Teams chat (Link it) or to keep them separate (Keep it separate).
Services such as Google Calendar or Gmail can be added as tools for agents. Whorl does not sync them. See Tools, MCP servers and connectors.
