Command center and search

The command center is one box that searches your work, opens pages and runs commands. You can reach almost anything in Whorl from it without leaving the keyboard.

Open it

Press ⌘K on Mac, or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. The box says Search or run a command….

Type to search. Use ↑ and ↓ to move through the results, and Enter to open the highlighted one. Press ⌘Enter (Ctrl+Enter) to open a result in a new tab. Press Esc to close the box.

What it searches

KindExamples
Threads and messagesThread titles and the messages in Threads and Captain conversations
People and CaptainsTeammates and the Captains you can ask
FilesFiles and folders in a Space
Mail, events and chatsYour mail, calendar events, chats, channels and their messages
Work itemsRequests, Automations, webhook endpoints and Activity items
Pages and settingsAny sidebar page and any Settings page or section

Notes are not part of this search today. To find a Note, use the filter on the Notes page.

Results appear in stages. Quick matches show first and the box keeps searching. A short line tells you when only some matches are shown. For example, the box says Needs permission when a source asks you to approve access, Not connected when you have not connected Microsoft 365, and Older items not searched when it stopped before the oldest items.

Start your text with one of these characters to limit what the box searches:

TypeSearches
>Commands
@People and Captains
#Threads and chats
/Pages and settings

Press Backspace on an empty box to remove the limit.

Run commands

The command center runs the actions Whorl offers on your current page and across the app. Type what you want in plain words, for example "new thread", "dark mode" or "keyboard shortcuts".

Common commands:

  • New thread starts a Thread.
  • Toggle sidebar hides or shows the sidebar.
  • Theme… sets the theme to System, Light or Dark.
  • Keyboard shortcuts opens the shortcut list.
  • Ask Whorl appears when Voice is on.

Highlight a result and press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) again to see the actions for that result. Depending on the result, they include Open in new tab, Copy link, Reply for mail, Pin for a Thread, Mark as read and Start a thread about this. Press ⌘⇧C (Ctrl+Shift+C) to copy the link directly.

The Files page has its own filter bar. Use it to find files by name and type inside a Space. See Files.
